Here’s something new — Victoria Beckham wears thick, chunky, clunky, bulky sandals. I had no idea she was into such footwear until I saw these pictures of her leaving a hotel in New York on Thursday.

The celebrity-turned-fashion-designer is famous for her sophisticated way of dressing. She is often seen in sleek and slim stilettos, be they pointy or strappy, so to find her in a pair with heavy platforms and block heels is quite a surprise.

Victoria styled the retro-looking shoes with a white blouse and a low-waist belted midi skirt in pink floral, then finished the getup with oversized sunnies and a matching clutch.

Do you think she nailed the getup or did she fail to impress?

I usually like what Victoria puts out, but this particular outfit is a little unusual for my taste. It’s both feminine and funky, which is hard to pull off.

I guess her style and sartorial preference have evolved. The skirt, clutch, and sandals are from her fashion line. You can find them online. The belted skirt is currently at half off (was $2450), though I personally wouldn’t want to spend over a thousand dollars on the piece.

Victoria’s sandals are crafted from suede and plush velvet. They feature wide straps on the vamps, buckled slingback straps, 2-inch-thick platforms, and 6.5-inch-tall heels. Here’s a closer look:

You like?

I’m not a huge fan of platforms, but they look well-made and expensive. Besides, it’s all a matter of wearing them with the right pieces. You can try Victoria’s getup above, or sport the sandals with cropped trousers instead and a structured blazer to dress ’em up.

For the gals who wish  to steal Victoria’s style for less, grab a floral midi skirt like this one, then team the piece with these chunky platform sandals from Topshop:
