Do you have a soft oversized blazer in your closet?
It’s not exactly a staple like the structured blazer or the basic trench coat, but I urge you to get one for your own good. A soft blazer is like a hybrid. It marries the shapeless quality of a kimono jacket with the details of a famous tailored topper — a blazer. I personally think it’s a great go-to piece for days when you want to add polish to a casual attire but don’t want to make a lot of effort to achieve it. Much like the kimono, it adds a dose of glam. But because it is, well, a blazer, you also get the sophisticated and elegant element.
Now if you’re wondering how on earth you’re going to rock a soft oversized blazer, here’s one idea courtesy of Scream Queens star, Lea Michele. The actress was spotted looking effortlessly chic in a soft oversized blazer while leaving a coffee shop in New York last week. The getup she used was nothing fancy, actually — just a pair of ripped blue boyfriend jeans and a white shirt — but the flowy topper really elevated her style. Also complementing the attire were on-point extras like a white tote (that matched her jacket), some cat-eye frames, and a pair of block-heeled lace-up sandals.

See how easy it is to style the soft blazer? And see how easy it is to pull it off? You don’t have to be a stylist or a hard-core fashionista to look chic and fabulous in the piece. It’s all a matter of choosing the right items to go with. Obviously, accessories make a difference. In Lea’s case, the flirty lace-up sandals added just enough flair and pulled everything together.
Speaking of the sandals, Lea’s pair is by Aquazzura. The “Austin” feature suede uppers, 3.25-inch-tall block heels, and lace-up closures that you can tie around the ankles. They are available online, if interested. A pair will set you back $695.
I couldn’t find any details Lea’s soft blazer, but if you wish to steal her style for much less, I suggest you grab the drapey jacket from EXPRESS and the ankle-tie sandals from Steve Madden below. Wear with ripped boyfriend jeans, a white shirt, and some statement eyewear. Now you’re all set!
