Love Island has earned its place as the steamiest show on TV all summer. But producers are asking contestants to spice up their bedroom antics and have more sex in order to hook viewers interest, The Daily Star reports.
A source told the publication: ‘The production team think the show needs even more sex.’ Only three couples this year have romped in the villa this year. Dom Lever and Jess Shears were the first couple to have sex but soon after they were voted out of the show. Montana Brown and Alex Beattie later followed suit as they decided to take their relationship to the next level.

Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies are the most recent couple to get hot and heavy under the sheets. Despite raking in a staggering 2.4million viewers-a-night, it is claimed the production team want Love Islanders to turn up the heat in the bedroom. The insider added: ‘They reckon the viewers will love seeing it. ‘Producers told them, “This isn’t a holiday. This is a TV show and we need you to make it worth watching”.’ Power couple Gabby Allen and Marcel Somerville have chosen to hold off on being intimate. Meanwhile, Olivia Attwood and Chris Hughes have reigned in their passion as they have only enjoyed a fumble.

Jamie Jewitt and Camilla Thurlow teased their fellow islanders they had done the deed but the lovebirds didn’t have sex when they spent a night in the hideaway. In fact, Love Island has received more complaints about its contestants smoking than having sex on TV this year. Almost half of the 50 grievances on the popular ITV show are about the boys and girls lighting up in their Majorca villa. The risqué series thrusts a group of young singletons together and uses night-vision cameras to film their bedroom antics.

But despite the highly-sexed content, just 15 out of the 46 Ofcom complaints lodged against the ITV2 show were about its X-rated nature. But an ITV spokesperson defended showing contestants puffing on cigarettes, saying scenes where contestants are smoking are only included if they are ‘having conversations which we believe to be editorially important to the narrative of the show.’ This news comes hot on the heels of last year’s show which broadcast a sex scene involving two contestants just 10 minutes into the 9pm watershed.

Viewers were shocked when Emma-Jane Woodham and Terry Walsh romped in front of their housemates with the lights on in an episode that aired in June. After investigating complaints, regulatory body Ofcom said broadcasters should take ‘particular care’ when broadcasting ‘real sex’ after the watershed but cleared the show because no rules were breached. Shots of the contestants were filmed using night-vision cameras and they were interspersed with the shocked reactions of other housemates. At the time, viewers had been warned beforehand that there would be scenes of a ‘sexual nature’. MailOnline has contacted Love Island representatives for further comment.
