They found love as the runners-up of last year’s Love Island. And Olivia Buckland, 23, and Alex Bowen, 24, looked to be going strong as they enjoyed a romantic stroll through Venice on Friday. The reality stars looked in good spirits as they enjoyed the sights of the picturesque city, putting on a stylish display.

Showing off her tanned and shapely legs, Olivia slipped into a thigh-skimming playsuit which revealed a glimpse of her rose tattoo. Fanning herself in the heat, she was joined by tattooed fiance Alex, who showed off his muscular physique in a vest and shorts ensemble. The duo later enjoyed a rest in the shade, flicking through pictures of their sightseeing tour.

Meanwhile Love Island’s former stars Alex and Cara de la Hoyde jumped to the defence of their fellow ITV2 alum following the aftermath of the lie detector test last week. Alex headed straight to Twitter to brand the fan favourite challenge as ‘as real as my new teeth’ as viewers watched the cast squirm under the pressure attached to the machine while their partners asked their burning relationship questions. During Tuesday night’s instalment of the reality series, viewers were left aghast after Islander Gabby Allen confessed she wasn’t in love with boyfriend Marcel Somerville – were was revealed to be true while Olivia Attwood admitted to not trusting other half Chris Hughes.

In the midst of the furore, scaffolder Alex posted a telling tweet which pointed out that he had failed the lie detector test when he was asked if he saw a future with his now-fiancée Olivia and now they’re happily engaged.  Reflecting on last season, Alex shared: ‘Do you see a future with Olivia? I said yes, the m********** went red and said I lied. Now I’m getting married. ‘The lie detector test is about as real as my new teeth. We thought it was real last year. Then on the show they said it’s 90% real, no 80%, no 70%. Actually, it’s a laugh. They got me good.’

Marcel was left stunned by the candid admissions

Jumping onto the bandwagon, last year’s winner Cara, 27, with Nathan Massey – who she has since split with – insisted that the test was ‘fabricated’.  ‘It’s a fabricated test to provide entertainment,’ she posted. ‘Last year

[Alex Bowen’s] machine fell off half way through and I had to stick it back on him.’ While Kady McDermott also agreed with her fellow Islanders when asked by Geordie Shore star Nathan Henry if the machine is ‘accurate’. Replying to his query, she posted: ‘It’s a load of c**p basically lol.’
