Known for her outlandish and quirky fashion sense, Helena Bonham Carter didn’t disappoint her fans as she stepped out in London for the screening of her 1985 breakout movie, A Room With A View, at the British Museum on Thursday.
For the occasion, the actress wore a deconstructed black lace dress and a matching blazer. She then teamed the getup with a white parasol similar to what she used in the film, and a pair of chunky maroon lace-up oxfords. The footwear choice was unexpected, but it suited her personality well.

I agree, the outfit looks too much like a costume, but at least it’s in elegant black. Besides, you can’t help but love the woman. Her style is adorable. I even like how she topped off everything with those thick platform lace-ups. Don’t you?
You ladies are no stranger to Helena’s oxfords. They’re from Stella McCartney, the same pair spotted on Kourtney Kardashian and Rihanna. In fact, the style has seen so many renditions it’s getting hard to keep track of ’em. Below are a few:
Stella McCartney Platform Brogues in Metallic Gold, $1100
Stella McCartney Platform Brogues in Metallic Silver, $1070
Stella McCartney Platform Brogues in Black Patent, $1100
Stella McCartney Platform Broques in Beige Stars, $1080
Stella McCartney Platform Brogues in Snake Effect, $1100
Stella McCartney Platform Brogues in Velvet, $1100
Do you fancy the shoes or do you think they’re too bulky?
They remind me of creepers, though they do look a little more polished thanks to the tapered toes. If you had a pair, how would you style it?
While I’m a fan of the design, I can’t say I love the price tag. Stella McCartney uses faux leather for its shoes and bags, and these oxfords are no exception. They’re crafted from synthetic material. Would you spend $1100 on a pair?
