Most often than not, we associate flat sandals with casual wear, as in, daisy dukes paired with a loose white shirt or a short bohemian-inspired frock ideal for a sunny summer day. But as what style setters like Sarah Jessica Parker, Caroline Issa, and Karlie Kloss have proven, you don’t have to limit the “wearability” of flat sandals to such casual pieces. You can actually wear your sandals with dressier items and look polished, sophisticated, and perfectly put together in your flat strappies.
For today, I’m going to share notes I’ve taken from the outfit Gigi Hadid’s wore on Tuesday. The model was spotted looking effortlessly chic in an all-white knee-length dress and flat sandals while out and about with her boyfriend, Joe Jonas, in New York City. The ensemble was simple — a high neck figure-huggin’ frock belted on the waist — but it was also elegant. She complemented the mix with statement sunnies, a Michael Kors tote, and a pair of snake-print flat thong sandals.

You can actually wear the outfit to, say, an afternoon party and easily fit in. The trick to looking polished in flat sandals lies in making sure your outfit — whether it’s a dress, a jumpsuit, or even a three-piece ensemble — is dressy or more formal in terms of silhouette, material, and appearance. By doing so, you strike the perfect balance.
Of course, it’s also important that the accessories (bags, shoes, and baubles) you use to go with are not too rugged. For sandals, go with a classic-looking pair, or better yet, try sandals that come in metallic leather or feature gems or gold add-ons.

What I like about snake-print in natural gray or brown is that you can wear them with almost anything. They’re neutral enough to dress up or down, and the exotic detail adds a dose of glam.
