Claire Danes, known for her feminine style, surprised everyone on Sunday by donning a rather edgy getup that was quite, well, unlike her. The actress stepped out in New York for a double dinner date with her husband, Hugh Dancy, and fellow thespians Emily Blunt and John Krasinski.

For the occasion, the Homeland star rocked an all-black getup of leather jacket worn over a black maxi dress and black open-toed mules. The frock was detailed with a thigh-high slit to reveal Claire’s right leg, while a black leather statement necklace complemented her attire. Her beauty look was just as straightforward and edgy — a clean face accentuated with  bold red lips and sleek-straight hairstyle.

How do you like Claire’s take on all-black fashion? Do you approve? I did not expect this from her, but it is quite refreshing to see her this way. In fact, it suits her. Would you agree?

I like how laid-back yet sophisticated she looks, as if she didn’t try so hard to put together the outfit. Wearing those open-toed mules did the trick, I think. They’re low-heeled yet pointed — the perfect combination if you want to look casual yet collected.

I had trouble finding Claire’s mules online, but if you can appreciate her style, steal it with these mules from Jeffrey Campbell and Kendall + Kylie instead. They don’t feature pointed toes, but the front of the shoes are elongated so you still get that laid-back yet sophisticated vibe:
