Anne Hathaway comes across to me as very ladylike. Blame it on her breakout role in the Princess Diaries, I guess. Plus, of course, when it comes to red carpet style, she always puts out elegant and feminine frocks that rarely disappoint.

On Monday, however, the actress sure surprised everyone with her fashion choice for the premiere of The Intern in New York City. For the evening, Anne chose a unique confection crafted from lame, lace, sequins, mesh, and feathers. The mixed-media frock boasted of a one-sleeve silhouette and an asymmetric hemline. She complemented it with a black box clutch and black ankle strap sandals.

The dress, a Rodarte creation, was definitely a step away from her usual, but it did give Anne a more daring vibe. It was a risky piece. And although I can’t say I was crazy about it, it did make her look fierce and bold.

Check out Anne’s pics below, then tell me if you agree:

Well, what do you think ladies? Do you approve of Anne’s latest red carpet choice or do you think the dress is overdecorated?

Kudos to the lady for being brave enough to step out in such a number. With that said, we all can agree that she’s had better days. Then again, perhaps she wanted a change from the usual. Hence. What about you, would you wear her dress?

Since we’re all about shoes here, let’s talk about Anne’s footwear for the evening. The sandals are by Jimmy Choo. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find anything that resembles the style on the Internet.

Based on the photos, they feature a classic design detailed with minimal platforms and slender ankle straps. Below are similar styles from the label for you to check out instead:

Of course, you need not spend so much money to get the same silhouette. Try these textured sandals from Chinese Laundry instead. These will only set you back an easy $70:
