Do you want to learn how to tone down a feminine ensemble?

Well, all you need to do is take a cue from the queen of chic street style, Jessica Alba. The Honest Company co-founder and actress was spotted infusing a bit of macho drama into her feminine attire while out and about in New York City on Wednesday. Jess wore a midi skirt, a peach colored jacket, and a white tank for the outing, but instead of pairing the combination with pointy flats or heels, she did the opposite — finish the mix with masculine gladiator sandals detailed with thick straps.

Do you approve of Jessica’s off-duty style, or  do you think it looks completely unflattering?

I don’t think it will suit short women. But if you’re tall and leggy or at least of average height, I think it’s an outfit worth considering. You don’t need much to steal Jessica’s style. Simply grab a black midi skirt, a white tank top, and a biker jacket and you’re all set.

Oh, and don’t forget to finish the mix with gladiator sandals. Pick a pair with thick straps so they appear more masculine. Jessica’s sandals are the “Banana Leaf” by Carven X Ancient Greek Sandals. The thick straps on these shoes actually follow the shape of, well, a banana leaf. If you can afford it, you can score the same sandals in your size via Moda Operandi or Shoescribe. They retail at a high $590.

For the gals on a budget, I recommend the Vince Camuto “Pixe” sandals instead. They’re not as detailed, but the macho vibe is there and that’s what counts. Besides, these sandals will only cost you $49, so they can’t get any better than that.
