Helen Flanagan was spotted trying to look elegant in all-black last Friday. The Coronation Street star debuted her dark ombre locks and decked herself in a knee-length black dress with matching black stockings for the day out. She complemented the getup with a black tote and a pair of black platform booties. She almost scored a hit with the pairing, but sadly, her chunky shoes ruined it for her. Check out Helen below, then tell me if you agree:

Well, what do you think of Helen’s shoes, did the chunky boots ruin her outfit or no?

I honestly think they did. While the thickness of the platforms are not exactly stripper heels level — yet — they’re just too much for her attire. A little less (or none at all) would have done the outfit a huge difference, and she would have looked like a million bucks. Would you agree?

Personally, sleek pointy booties such as this pair from Ivanka Trump would have been the better choice. These shoes are just the right height, and they’re also sophisticated enough to go with her all-black ensemble:

Or, if you’re the type who can’t live without platforms, booties with moderate top lift would be the ideal option. Be sure to pick a style that still looks polished even with the presence of platforms.  My personal recommendation would have to be these fierce suede booties from Chinese Laundry by Kristin Cavallari:

The Lavish feature one inch thick platforms so they don’t look too chunky. The silhouette of these shoes also makes the pair more attractive, and dare I say, expensive looking. You can own the Lavish in your size by shopping for the booties online. They retail at an accessible $170. Will you grab?
