I love flat oxfords. But only the ones that are slim at the toes. I hate the bulky ones that make you look stubby and short. Oxfords are some of the shoes I find myself using more often than I thought I would. I like the kind of flavor they infuse to an outfit, whether it’s a dress, a pair of shorts, or cropped pants (or jeans). I’m always on the lookout for ways to style my oxfords, and this week, I discovered a new styling trick from Emmy Rossum.

The actress was spotted leaving Milk Studios with her talent manager the other in West Hollywood, California. For the outing, Emmy wore a casual outfit consisting of a polka-dot peplum top and white distressed denim cutoffs. Nothing fancy, really. But the way she finished the ensemble made a huge difference. Punctuating the separates were red-rimmed cat-eye peepers, a white purse, and gray patent oxfords. She looked laid-back and super cool in the combination, and I couldn’t help but give it a nod of approval.

Do you like the way Emmy styled her oxfords as much as I do? Would you consider copying the look this summer?

I would. I’ve yet to get the details on where Emmy got her spectator shoes, but I’m copying her look for a lot less with these lace-ups from Frye. They retail at an affordabl $111 and feature a pointed-toe silhouette that I love.

To complete Emmy’s style, I’ll work these oxfords from Frye with a blue printed blouse from Calvin Klein ($55) and some white denim cutoffs from Roxy ($40). Finally, I’ll complement the mix with red sunglasses from Vince Camuto ($70) and a white purse from Aldo ($55):
