Leather slides, as in Birkenstock sandals and look-alikes — whether high-end designer versions or mass-market productions — are what’s in fashion this summer. That’s why it came as no surprise to find one of the most fashionable Victoria Secret angels, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, sport a pair last week.

The leggy blond kept things simple but feminine by wearing her macho sandals with a floral maxi dress that was detailed with a thigh-high split on one side to show off her gams. She then complemented the combination with oversized sunnies and a boxy purse. It was a very straightforward ensembe, but a sexy one at that.

The outfit is the perfect marriage of masculine and feminine. Leather slides are not exactly sexy or glamorous, so offsetting those characteristics with a feminine frock is the best way to strike a balance and nail the look.

I’ve yet to get the details on Rosie’s sandals, but my hunch is they’re from Givenchy. Below is a similar pair with another kind of floral print. These slides are crafted from calf-leather material, and feature two thick buckled straps at the vamps. They are quite pretty, but also very expensive. In any case, I don’t think you need to spend that much money to get Rosie’s look. Those good ol’ reliable Birks will do just fine. Personally, I prefer these metallic options from Mephisto and Birkenstock, just so you get a touch of glam out of the high-shine texture:
